Pat Robertson: On Putin

Pat Robertson has demonstrated his appalling grasp of scripture by announcing that President Putin of Russia is doing God's will by invading the Ukraine en-route for Israel. He demonstrates, once again, that his grasp of scripture was always tenuous from the start. Of course it was, for a man who has amassed a fortune of somewhere between $200M and $1Billion he could not have achieved that without ignoring some awkward scriptures. For instance, Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. Matthew 6:19-20. Some treasure chest he's laid up. However, he gained his fortune by the misuse of scripture at the expense of his generous audiences.

He was a prosperity gospel preacher. These preachers made promises in the name of God for people's needs, especially healing. In the process he spoke in the name of God and defrauded people of millions of their hard earned dollars. He was a false prophet from the start and the Bible foretells their end. Now, this false prophet tells us what God is doing over the problem of Putin invading the Ukraine. How can this man be trusted, since he clearly cannot exegete scripture correctly. There must now be millions of Jews around the world and in Israel who are now absolutely terrified.

A quick look at a map will show how preposterous Pat Robertson's intervention is. If invading Israel is the objective, why go via Moldovia, Rumania, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey and Lebanon when he could go through the Caucusus and thus avoid any kind of sea crossing?

Such an event will happen one day but it won't be President Putin at the helm. It will only happen after Israel make a covenant with the Anti-Christ who will then proceed to break that covenant. Clearly, Israel has not made such a covenant and on that basis alone it must stand as a future event. Pat Robertson needs to learn how to interpret scripture properly before he opens his mouth. He has not learnt it in his first 92 years of life and it seems unlikely that he ever will. Sadly, it is the people of the true Church of Jesus Christ who could suffer from this unscriptural interpretation of the Bible.
