Leon Walters: About Face!

Today the focus within the New Apostolic Reformation movement is on the Ascension gifts. These gifts are the offices of: Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher. This can all be found in Ephesians 4 v11. Clearly these are mentioned in the Bible but it is the interpretation of the meaning of these gifts which has been misused by the NAR. For instance, there can no longer be apostles of the stature of Paul the Apostle or prophets of the stature of the Old Testament prophets because the canon of scripture is now closed (see Revelation 22:18-19), but not, according to the NAR. The canon of scripture can no longer be added to, yet the NAR persists in producing new words purportedly from God which either lay alongside or override the words of scripture. The Bible is quite clear that this is outside the bounds of scripture and is in fact, deception (see 2Peter 2:1 for example).

You can read Leon Walters article on the Elijah List here where he says: There is a shout from the Heavens, "About-face!" God is calling His armies to prepare for war and to face their enemies, whether great or small. This will require you to have a change of attitude. It requires you to bring your behaviors into order and to shift your point of view, with full attention to the new orders and commands from God's throne. It requires you to fulfil His purposes on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Let's examine these words carefully in the light of scripture. There is a shout from the Heavens, "About-face!" Where does scripture mention shouts from Heaven? It does not. In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. Hebrews 1:1. This verse makes perfect sense when one considers the tenses used for the word "spoke". The first is an aorist participle active and the second is aorist indicative active. The point being made here is that the first "spoke" implies that for a period of time (ie throughout the Old Testament) God used prophets to bring his word to the nation of Israel. The second "spoke" implies that God then spoke through his Son and continues to speak through his Son. The first "spoke" is now redundant and the writer to the Hebrews continues by showing superiority of Jesus, who incidently is not mentioned at all in Leon Walters' article.

Why is there a shout from heaven? Jesus has spoken and speaks through His Word, the Bible, to all the peoples of this world not just the inhabitants of one continent.

Nowhere in scripture is army language, such as About face!, used as portrayed here by Leon Walters. These two words are the invention of men. They are not God's words.

Leon Walters makes a half-hearted attempt at calling for repentance when he says: This will require you to have a change of attitude. It requires you to bring your behaviors into order and to shift your point of view, with full attention to the new orders and commands from God's throne. It requires you to fulfil His purposes on Earth as it is in Heaven. Surely God's requirement is that we repent and give full attention to the reading of His Word.

This form of spiritual warfare is blatantly unscriptural. It is weird and takes people away from the Word of God and towards the words of a god, whoever that might be. It is sad to read that Leon has been pastoring a church for twenty four years and presumably giving his flock this kind of garbage. He needs to do a true "About Turn!" himself.
