Jane Hamon: Year of Beauty from Ashes

The Elijah List has offered many prophecies about the year 2013. Rob Hotchkin offered: The Year of Fulfillment! whilst John Mark and Sandy Pool told us that We Have Entered a New Season of Pursuit! Bobby Haaby says that it is A Year of "Activation", whatever that is. James Goll produces Eight Clear Words For 2013 and Matt Sorger offers 13 Prophetic Insights and Decrees for 2013. There is, however a common theme which these and many others have latched onto. It is that the previous few years have been difficult ones but 2013 is going to be a great year.

By singing from the same hymn sheet it sounds like the Holy Spirit is offering words of encouragement in a spirit of unity. It can also mean that each prophet has followed the same line of thought as his or her fellows and so the theme is repeated. It would in fact be odd if they had all offered different ideas for what is taking place. Since these prophets endorse one another and attend each other conferences it is hardly surprising that there is a common theme.

One recent offering on the Elijah List, which can be read in fill here was by Jane Hamon, who was sticking closely to this theme. She writes As I fasted and prayed the first week of the year, I really felt the Lord say, "This will be a turn-around year for My people. Breakthroughs, miracles, advancement, prosperity, opportunities, will all come into fruition as people shake off the difficulties and discouragement of the past years and arise in faith to see the promises of God come alive even in the midst of an adverse spiritual climate in the earth. I am turning that which has been sent against you for evil to begin to work for your good." Why should we need all these things, like breakthroughs, miracles, advancement, prosperity, opportunities? The reason is that Jane Hamon, like almost all Elijah List contributors, is a dominionist. Now dominionists have been having a rough time in recent years. For instance, there was the failure to bring a New Apostolic Reformation candidate to the presidential elections - let alone win the presidency. Instead Christians were expected to vote for a Mormon. It seems strange that if the tide was running in the New Apostolic Reformation's favour, then why did their chosen candidate fall out of the running? Then there is the problem that much time and prayer has been spent on spiritual warfare without any marked improvement in America's moral behaviour. After all, surely some demonic strongholds have been toppled?

Hence it can be seen that dominionists need perking up a little, so it's a New Year and hence new prophecies to encourage the troops. Troops is the word for dominionists who rave on about soldiers and armies. No one ever seems to stop and ask: Are we really heading in the right direction or not? Jane offers her encouragement by telling the troops that Breakthroughs, miracles, advancement, prosperity, opportunities, will all come into fruition as people shake off the difficulties and discouragement of the past years and arise in faith Underlying this statement is one sad fact that Jane's faith like so many dominionists comes from Jane. Faith is a gift of God. We don't need to wind ourselves up into some kind of faith-state so we can shake off the difficulties and discouragement of the past years.

Jane then says There is no doubt that the last several years have been times of great challenge for individuals, for the Church, and for nations - especially America. This is very true, but why has it been such a great challenge - especially for America? Even the Pope felt it and managed to say when the seas were rough and the wind blew against us and it seemed that the Lord was sleeping Read his full address here. To quote scripture: He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber or sleep. Psalm 121 vv3-4 So God does not sleep. It can only mean that the ex-Pope's theology is a bit shaky. In fact, the papacy is every bit as dominionist as the New Apostolic Reformation and both have entered into godless realms and then wondered why God does not bless!

Jane continues with I have often reminded our congregation that there is no victory without a battle, and that in order to be an overcomer one must first have something to overcome. There are two problems here: Firstly the victory was won by Jesus on the cross. He gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ 1Corinthians 15 v 57b. Consequently we are no longer striving for a victory. Secondly, she says one must first have something to overcome, implying that there is nothing else to overcome. However, scripture says: Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to them that love him James 1 v12. Be faithful, even to the point of death and I will give you the crown of life Revelation 2 v10. These are just two things which we have to be overcome and there are many more. Jane is not referring to these, she is referring to the unscriptural NAR idea of spiritual warfare.

Jane then adds This will be a year of tremendous turn-around for those who are aligning themselves to the purposes of God and who are obeying His voice. So Jane introduces the idea that we must align ourselves to the purposes of God. If this was a way of saying "Read the Bible" - fine, but it is not. If you are not aligned then you must be in rebellion to God. This is a judgement on so much of the rest of the church.

Jane later says that she felt the Lord saying: The enemy has tried his best to discourage My people by constantly pulling blessings from within their reach, making them feel their warfare and spiritual disciplines are futile to obtain the promised blessings. What is this? Spiritual disciplines! They belong to medieval Roman Catholic monastries and they certainly have no biblical place in the Body of Christ. She then continues with But," the Lord says, "I am taking the blindfolds off My people in this next season and they will hit the mark and release the blessings from Heaven. Seriously are WE going to release the blessings from heaven? Blessings and cursings come from God and God alone.

Next comes classic New Apostolic Reformation speak when she says I have put weapons in their hands that will break things open: praise, prayer, obedience, decreeing My Word... None of these supposed weapons that Jane mentions are described by the Apostle Paul in Ephesians chapter 6. Jane is adding to scripture. Anyway why should praise be a weapon? Why is obedience a weapon? Jesus said If you love me, you will obey what I command. So obedience is not an optional extra nor for that matter is it a weapon.

The final quote from Jane that needs mentioning is I believe this year will be a year of outpouring and blessings as God's Word acts like a hammer that breaks the rock into pieces (see Jeremiah 23:29). Interesting that she should mention Jeremiah 23 the verses actually say the following: I have heard what the prophets say who prophesy lies in my name. They say, 'I had a dream! I had a dream!' How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions of their minds? They think the dream they tell one another will make my people forget my name, just as their fathers forgot my name through Baal worship. Let the prophet who has a dream, tell his dream, but let one who has my word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?" declares the Lord. "Is not my word like fire," declares the Lord, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?" Jeremiah 23 vv25-29. Jane is feeling, sensing and dreaming what the Lord might be saying. According to these words of scripture Jane's words are nothing more than the delusions of her mind.

Finally, Jane does a Bible study on the number thirteen. Presumably this is because we are in the year 2013. So this Bible study should be pretty useful in 2113, 2213 and so on. Jane, here, fails to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ but presents a theology based upon her feeling something. So the bottom line is this - do you trust the words which Jane Hamon has "felt" or do you trust the infallible Word of God as found in the Bible?
