One of the men had been actually trained and mentored by Jean Vanier, which is an interesting thing because we have a retreat center here and my spiritual director, who grew up at Saddleback, actually went and trained under Jean Vanier too. So I am very excited about that.

It is the word "mulligan" and I like this word. If you don't know that word is it means that in golf when you do a bad shot you get a second chance you get to do another shot and they don't count the first one against you. I like that. If you want to know what you ought to be doing with your life you need to look at your shape. What am I wired to do? Why would God wire you to do something and then ask you not to do it? If you’re wired to be an anthropologist then you’d be an anthropologist. If you’re wired to be an undersea explorer then you’d be an undersea explorer. If you’re wired to make deals then you’d make deals. If you’re wired to paint then you’d paint. Do you know that God smiles when you be you? When my little kids - when my kids were little – they’re grown up now - have grand kids. I used to sit on the side of their beds and I used to watch my kids. I watched their little bodies rise and lower. Rise and lower and I got joy out of just watching them. Some people have the misguided idea that God only gets excited when you’re doing spiritual things: going to church or whatever; helping the poor; confessing you know; or doing something like that. You can keep your own religion—Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Mormonism—you just need to add Jesus to the equation. Then you become complete. You become a Buddhist with Jesus, a Hindu with Jesus, a Muslim with Jesus and so on. You can throw out the term Christianity and still be a follower of Jesus. In fact, you can throw out the term Christian too. In some countries, you could be persecuted for calling yourself a Christian, and there is no need for that. Just ask Jesus into your heart, you don’t have to identify yourself as a Christian.
