Amanda Wells: The Thief had been Apprehended

Amanda Wells tells us on the Elijah List that Satan has been apprehended. She tells us in an article entitled: The Judge has made his Judgement that Recently I had a dream encounter and as I woke I knew it was prophetic for the Body of Christ. I heard a knock on the door, our back door, and as I answered it I saw a police officer standing with a person, although it was not the person but the spirit that was binding the person, in handcuffs next to them.
The police officer said to me, "We have apprehended the enemy, the thief. Come with me as we go before the judge; the enemy will be charged and sentenced and will have to repay." I started to follow the police officer and the apprehended criminal and the officer said to me, "Tell the Body of Christ, the thief has been caught, the judged sentenced, and this is the year of repayment!"
But is she right? And is this a word for the Body of Christ?

Every word which purportedly comes from the Lord must be tested. Test everything. Hold onto the good. 1Thessalonians 5 v21. How many people actually do test anything, let alone everything? One suspects that it is not many and certainly not Amanda. First, how should we test something? The answer is very simple - Does it agree with God's word? God's word is the Bible and as evangelicals we hold that the words recorded in scripture are God's infallable words. The Bible says All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2Timothy 3 vv16-17. The words which we ourselves can utter are not scripture since the Greek used here is not "logos" or "rhema" but is "graphe" which means writings. So it is the writings (or scripture) which teach, rebuke, correct or train - not our feelings, or anything someone may say. Armed with this let us therefore consider what Amanda is saying.

Firstly, Amanda had a dream. It is a ludicrous dream. She continues by saying: We live opposite of quite thick bush, and the police officer walked both of us through the bush, as the apprehended one was silent beside the officer. The walk seemed longer than I knew this bush walk to be and I was tempted to stop. The officer said to me, "Many have been in the wilderness this past season; it's been a long and lonely time. When you are in the wilderness you can lose hope and your peace, but keep walking. That season is over, you're coming out, and coming directly into the courts of the Lord! Keep walking!" He said, "Don't get sidetracked, don't think of it as a delay, but keep walking because your prophetic promise, your inheritance and your recompense is here." The sentence contains words for the Body of Christ. Basically, you will lose your inheritance and your recompense if you stop walking (and presumably, begin to doubt). In biblical terms, however, our inheritance was sealed up for us when Jesus said: Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5 v5.

Secondly, we are told that Suddenly we arrived at the courts; the opulence, the beauty, the worship and His Presence was awesome. Jesus stood before the bench and though the Judge was there I could only see His enormous gavel. Jesus said, "I am your attorney." He then proceeded to state the case to the Judge and the next thing I heard was the gavel sound and a voice say, "Take the prisoner away, and tell him he must pay sevenfold recompense to the plaintiff." So this is important stuff because Jesus is there, presumably as the prosecution council. The Judge finds the prisoner guilty and passes sentence.

The narrative continues As the apprehended was led away, the gavel sounded again. I heard a voice say to me, "Go tell all that this is the year where Heaven touches earth, the supernatural in the natural, and this is the year that cases that seemed unwinnable, have now been decided. Tell them this is the year of restoration of all that has been stolen: finances, health, reputations, businesses, families, children, destinies. Get ready, the thief has been caught, has been tried and now he must pay back recompense. Tell those who have been in the wilderness, the Court's in session, come in with the Word of God, declare it today, and see their impossible situations turn in a moment. I'm restoring their hope and peace." Here we have Dominionist claptrap: heaven touches earth; seven mountains (well, some of them); supernatural becoming natural; and destinies. Clearly, Amanda is trying to rally the troops because once again people who have bought into all this unscriptural nonsense are getting edgy. Where are the promises? Where are the riches we were promised? Where are the supernatural Christians? Why aren't their prophecies coming to pass? And so Amanda offers encouragement.

Amanda then quotes scripture by saying: I then awoke and the first words that came to me were, "Yet if he is caught, he must pay sevenfold, though it costs him all the wealth of his house" (Proverbs 6:31). So Satan has been found guilty and must now repay sevenfold for what he has stolen. Why is this so unscriptural?

Well, here is the interesting thing: Nowhere in scripture does it say that Satan is a thief. It does say in the parable of the sower: Some people are like seed along the path. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. Mark 4 v15. One of the most common uses of the word "thief" regards Jesus's return when it says: He will come as a thief in the night. This occurs at least five times in the New Testament. A second interesting point is that nowhere in scripture does it say that Satan will steal your goods and possessions and nowhere does it say that Satan must recompense you.

The Bible does not keep us in the dark as to what will happen to Satan: When the thousand years are over Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth-God and Magog to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the God's people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning fire, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. This is Satan's last act, but there is no court case, no sentence declared and no recompense paid.

Thus it can clearly be seen that if Amanda Wells had just had a cursory glance at scripture she would have seen that what she had dreamed was, no more than just, well, hogwash. Without reading the Bible we are like a man in a rowing boat in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean who has no compass. If our hope is in the Jesus of Nazareth as presented in the Bible then we must read the Bible carefully and regularly. If we don't then we are all at sea without a compass and without hope.

Amanda has declared things in the name of the Lord which are not of the Lord. She has shown herself to be a false prophet and false teacher. She should repent of her words and withdraw them.
